Scalewings by Jill Arwen Posadas

If you liked the book cover drawing of Mom’s A Stewardess (part of which appears on this blog), the artist responsible for that was Jill Arwen Posadas. When I started thinking about how I wanted the cover of the book to look like, I knew I wanted something light, fun, and young-looking.

Why did I want that effect? Most of the time, people think of faith and religion as serious topics. We hardly think of faith-related matters as fun or exciting but they actually are! It’s just a matter of perspective. I wanted a “light” effect because I know that God always wants us to be happy. If things are not going too well, then we are “happily” learning something in the process.

I first came across Jill’s work when I bought the book Haluhalo Espesyal which is one of my daughter’s favorite books. I thought her drawings were cute and interesting so I was so happy to have had the chance to work with her on Mom’s A Stewardess.

Anyway, back to Jill. Jill is mounting her fifth show/exhibit starting this September 17, 2008. The Exhibit is called Scalewings and will feature her works done in watercolor. (The cover of Mom’s A Stewardess was also done in watercolor but more on the artwork in the coming days.) All pieces will be for sale.

The show will open at 6pm at the Prose Art Gallery, third floor Lerose Realty, 832 Arnaiz Avenue corner Paseo de Roxas, Makati. It will run until October 1 so you have a lot of time to drop by and check out Jill’s new and exciting works.

To Jill, break a leg. Or do you say something else to artists?
